When I look at an ad I look for the purpose, the concept, the design and the creativity. Having a recognizable purpose, concept or message is the main element that makes an ad successful. The design, uniqueness, and creativity are elements that make a successful ad an absolute one. Often times I see advertisements where I have no Idea what they are advertising. The ad focuses so much on the design tht the concept is lost, or sometimes, it is so simplistic that it is boring and not memorable, and so the purpose of the ad is lost. In my ad I tried to use a unique/origional design to convey a message. To me it is visually intriguing but at the same time it is simple and gets the message accross.
The use only what you need campaign, is highly successful because it is simple but it gets the point is clear. The ad utilizes actual physical elements to convey meaning along with the lettering, opposed to just stating, “Dont use as much water as you are using.” The visual element heightenes the impact of the message. Having the differnet physical elements has the viewer thinking aabout the truth of how much of everything you actually do use.

I am new at this computer business and when we were given the assignment to create something artistic with excell, word or power point I was at a loss. I played around for quite sometime on the different programs, trying to get something that interested in me. Finally I figured that I would enjoyed altering pictures through power point and so that is the direction that I went. I altered a picture of Jimi Hendrix, making it transparent. I than placed a graph over the picture, dividing the space. The goal was to cover the entire piece with smaller images of Hendrix to make up a larger picture, but about a third of the way through I changed my mind. It interested me to have pieces of the graph still showing, so I left it unfinished. I feel as though by not finishing putting the pictures on the piece, it kind of shows that I used regular software. However, the down side to not finishing the pictures is that it is hard to tell what kind of look I was going for. But as a first project I am satisfied with it and I look foreward to learning to use the programs.

Today I found myself, as I find myself often, lost in the painted thoughts in my imagination. Wondering…opening new passages in the space of my existence… and I worry. I worry as I hope others do about the things that we are left to wonder and the space between.
